Chris Hemsworth isn’t surprised at the negativity towards the franchise that made him famous: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Australian-born, 39, spoke to GQ about the backlash from Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino to the popular superhero film series in a new interview.
Hemsworth has played Thor in several Marvel films since 2011. He was last seen in Thor: Love and Thunder last year.
“It’s super depressing to hear,” Hemsworth said of the famous director’s remarks. “There are two of my heroes that I will not be working with. I guess they’re not a fan of mine.”
However, he is “grateful” for having the chance to play the Norse god.

“Whether or not these films affected other films, I don’t know,” the Star Trek actor continued. “I don’t like it when we start questioning each other when the business and this area of the arts is so fragile anyway.”
Despite comments from Scorsese, 80, and Tarantino, 60, Hemsworth still calls them his “heroes.”
The father-of-three continued, “I would work with any of them in a heartbeat. But I say it more to the broader opinion on the subject. I don’t think either of us has the answer, but we’re trying.”
The Kill Bill filmmaker explained on last year’s 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast that Hollywood’s lack of movie stars was due to the MCU.
“Part of the Marvelization of Hollywood is … there are all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they are not movie stars. To the right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star,” said the Django Unchained screenwriter, shaking his head.
The Tennessee native added, “I mean, I’m not the first to say that, I think it’s been said a zillion times. But it’s those franchise characters that become stars.”

As for the Gangs of New York director, he claimed that Marvel movies shouldn’t be considered cinema.
He told Empire magazine in 2019, “Honestly, the best thing I can think of are theme parks, however well made, and where the actors are doing their best given the circumstances.” It’s not the cinema of People trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”
The Post has reached out to Hemsworth, Scorsese and Tarantino for comment.
