Chris Rock remained silent on Tuesday when he was seen in public for the first time since the night of the Oscars when he was punched on stage by actor Will Smith.

The comedian kept his head down as he arrived in Boston Tuesday ahead of his sold-out Wednesday night show.

In one of the most shocking moments in the history of the hailed awards show, Smith took the stage during the awards show on Sunday and slapped Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife showing up.

Smith’s collapse continued as he returned to his seat and repeatedly yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your damn mouth”.

The crowd then fell into a stunned silence – and any questions as to whether the altercation was genuine were answered when Smith received the Best Actor award just over half an hour later and apologized for the attack.

The actor released a statement on Monday saying his behavior was “unacceptable and inexcusable” and made him “embarrassed”.

Rock, who has not been seen to date, had told Los Angeles Police Department that he did not want to press charges. A source told TMZ Monday that he went backstage to his dressing room after the slapping incident and did not speak to Smith.

Ticket prices for Rock’s “Ego Death” world tour soared from $46 to over $400 as demand for seats surged after Will Smith met the comedian during Sunday night’s awards ceremony.

The first show on Wednesday in Boston was already sold out on Tuesday morning.

The slap will go down as one of the most shocking moments in awards history and has been viewed tens of millions of times.
