Smith’s resignation from the Academy
For his part, Will Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences yesterday, Friday, after the possibility arose that he would be expelled from the organization or suspended after beating comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards, so TMZ and Variety. .

The academy reported March 30 that Smith had until April 18 to defend his attack on the ceremony through written statements before the board decided what the ramifications of the action would be.
