Geraldo Matheus, father of Christiane Torloni, died this Friday (29) at the age of 93. The actor had been hospitalized since September 10 at the UnimedRio Hospital in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. “Grateful for the beautiful journey we took together,” the heiress wrote in a post on Instagram.
In a press release, Christiane’s office reported that Geraldo Matheus left for natural reasons around 5 p.m. The actress published a photo of her father in black and white and dedicated a short farewell text to him.
“I say goodbye to my beloved father Geraldo Matheus, grateful for the beautiful journey we have taken together. Grateful for the art, ethics and love he blessed me with. And as Oscar Wilde says, “The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death,” he captioned it.
Fans and friends of the actress reacted to the news by commenting on the publication. “May God welcome your father in his glory and may he rest in peace. “A lot of strength to you and your whole family during this very painful time,” wished internet user Amanda Marques.
“Eternal bond! Much love to give strength and peace to the hearts of those who have faith! You do that! Life goes on, dear Cris. One day we will all be together again,” wrote Juliana Paiva.
On January 4, Geraldo suffered a heart attack. The artist remained hospitalized in Rio de Janeiro for 20 days. “They saved my father’s life, they gave me back to him. It was the hand of God,” Christiane celebrated at the time. “He became an absolute priority. It’s like he’s a son. I am very lucky that my parents are still alive. We stopped everything and then paid too late,” Christiane said at the time.
Geraldo was an actor and worked as director of the Theatro Municipal in São Paulo. In 1954 he married the actress Monah Delacy. The relationship produced two children: Márcio and Christiane.
