Christmas: 3 games to (re)discover during the end-of-year holidays – L'Éclaireur Fnac

As Christmas approaches, L'Éclaireur offers you a selection of three video game titles to catch up on and get in the mood.

1 Kingdom Hearts 2 and its Christmas town

Disney and Christmas have been inextricably linked since the Walt Disney Christmas Show in the 1950s, so it's no surprise that a game related to it is at the top of our list. The Kingdom Hearts saga has always known how to mix the style of Square Enix with that of the Mouse Empire, but looking at another author's universe we find the best game to celebrate this festive period.

The second work in the series takes us to a chapter of The Nightmare Before Christmas, in which the player has to visit one of the key locations of Tim Burton's film: Christmas Town. Our heroes must save the city from the infamous Oogie Boogie by running into Santa Claus and his elves. 18 years after its release, this chapter is often considered one of the best in Kingdom Hearts history. Enough to get the Grinch among us in the Christmas spirit.

2 Batman: Arkham Origins and the Christmas Crime

If “Die Hard” is considered by many to be a Christmas movie, it makes sense to argue that this is also the case with this action title. Origins was criticized upon its release for its comparison to Batman: Arkham City (which is still considered the most successful superhero game of all time), but it has undeniable qualities as a screenwriter and the chapters surrounding the Joker are among the most interesting of the work.

Arkham Origins also marks the first time that Troy Baker will take the reins of the Joker after 21 years of extraordinary achievements from Mark Hamill. The Clown Prince of Crime even gets an eerily orchestrated theme based around the classic song “Carol of the Bells” for the occasion. This adventure takes place on Christmas Eve and takes us to the snowy city of Gotham to discover the beginnings of Batman from the great video game trilogy.

3 Bully and the mad school

Christmas is not just about shimmering lights, thoughtful gifts and the warmth of home. It is also chaos and destruction. At least that's what Jimmy Hopkins, the hero of the much too little known video game from Rockstar Games, seems to think. Often considered by Dan Houser (the father of GTA and Red Dead himself) to be his favorite creation, this controversial game holds a special place in the publisher's pantheon of best titles upon its release.

In the six chapters of his story, players accompany Jimmy through his school year at Bullworth Academy. This private school with Victorian strictness wants to turn the young delinquent into a model student, which the principal in question obviously doesn't like.

The rock star-style holiday mixes biting satire with action scenes and includes an alcoholic Santa Claus, wild snowball fights and battles against a group of particularly angry elves. Something to please those who hate the end of year celebrations.
