“Christmas a tradition in songs”: Claudette Dion will pay tribute to Maman Dion

With the tour Christmas is a tradition with songsClaudette Dion promises to spread holiday cheer across the province. But she will also use the opportunity to pay tribute to her mother with the song The snow of my country, written by the woman all Quebecers affectionately call Maman Dion. “I miss her so much,” admits the singer.

“My mother was an extraordinary woman; We didn’t have much money, but we never knew poverty because she knew how to do everything and she gave us so much love. We didn’t miss anything. She had an extraordinary life and deserves to be remembered by everyone,” admits Claudette Dion.

And that is the mission she has given herself. Apparently, she achieves this through her work at the Maman Dion Foundation, where she continues the work done by her mother. But there is also music that allows her to keep the memory of the matriarch of the Dion clan in the public eye.

Special request

For this reason, Claudette Dion wanted to include “La neige de mon pays” in the program of the sixth Christmas edition, a song tradition whose tour is currently criss-crossing the province. This piece was written several years ago when a handful of members of the Dion clan asked their mother to write it.

“We did shows at the Montreal Casino for four years, we were very successful! So I asked my mother if she could write us something. Just as she wrote “It was just a dream for Céline,” she could very well write a song for us!” recalls Claudette Dion with a laugh.

The next morning the lyrics and music of “The Snow of My Country” were finished.

“My mother had the chance to travel around the world with Céline. And she always told us that here at home we had the most beautiful snow in the world. I can’t sing this song without thinking about her, without hearing her voice. There are a lot of emotions involved,” the 74-year-old singer continues.

Céline’s “incredible morals”

Once the “Christmas a Tradition in Song” tour is over, Claudette Dion can enjoy a moment of respite for the holidays; The singer plans to spend time in a chalet with her four children and 13 grandchildren.

However, she doesn’t think she will have the chance to see her sister Céline again until the end of the year.

“I’m pretty busy. But we spoke recently, she has incredible morals,” she assures.

She is also optimistic about her younger sister’s health. Celine Dion has been in compulsory rest for more than two years and suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome (SPR).

“I keep my fingers crossed, but I am convinced that they will find something to cure this disease. Because it is very rare, not many researchers have worked on it; But thanks to her, there are even more people looking for a cure. I think that Céline will in some way help save the lives of many people who suffer from this,” says Claudette Dion.

  • The trip Christmas is a tradition with songs lasts until December 23rd.
