How does ESA recruit astronauts?: a participatory workshop to understand the essential skills needed to become European astronauts
There Space city offers a new entertaining and participatory workshop “How does ESA recruit astronauts?” to make visitors understand the profiles according to which European astronauts are selected. In order to be able to take part in future space missions to the International Space Station (ISS), the Moon or even Mars, many skills are essential: memory, logic, physical fitness, spatial orientation, cooperation, team spirit, self-control, communication skills…
Duration 40 minutes, This animation invites the general public to play the astronaut selection game by experimenting alone or in a team with some tests and scenarios inspired by the real selection process. This animation was developed thanks to the support of astronauts and engineers from ESA and CNES included in the entry ticket. “MOON, EPISODE 2” : an immersive exhibition to understand current lunar research and the next scientific challenges that must be addressed to achieve the return of astronauts to the Moon within a few years
With the exhibition “MOON, Episode 2”Young and old discover the scientific challenges that space agencies are currently working on: the return of astronauts to the moon with the aim of staying there and conduct sophisticated scientific research. The goal is to train to live outside our planet before moving on later: to Mars. Visitors are immersed in this exhibition embedded in a 100% moon village to understand all the challenges that scientists have to face in order to survive (or survive) on this star. Despite the apparent devastation, can we find resources there? How do you deal with these precious resources (solar energy, dust, water)? Are there effective ways to protect yourself from this hostile environment? How should you equip yourself? How can we manage to work, shelter, sleep, eat, communicate and live on the moon? Mars terrain “The rovers are coming on the scene!” : an immersive animation about the discovery of Mars and Martian robots
In the heart of a Martian crater that can accommodate up to 250 visitors at a time, Mars exploration will be staged by Mars science presenters Space city as close as possible to the reality of current space exploration through a daily 25-minute animation. In the form of a 900 m2 Martian crater in which the soil and rock so typical of the Red Planet are faithfully reproduced Mars site, new place for scientific communication, focuses on the most studied planet in the solar system: MARS and the robots that explore it.
Mars Terrain “The rovers arrive on the scene! “ was designed for all target groups. In the heart of the central zone of the Martian crater, fully automated replicas of the Perseverance rovers in their original size (NASA-United States) and Zhurong (CNSA – China) – both currently exploring the planet Mars – are activated by US scientific leaders Space city to authentically show how these mobile robots move on the Red Planet and what missions they are entrusted with. This equipment was designed and developed in collaboration with scientific experts from the French Space Agency (CNES) and the Research Institute of Astrophysics and Planetology IRAP, in order to best reproduce a Martian landscape as realistic as possible (colors, textures, reliefs, etc.).
