China is “considering” providing “deadly support” to Russia, according to CIA Director Bill Burns. But “we don’t see that a final decision has been made yet, and we don’t see evidence of actual shipments of deadly equipment,” Burns told CBS News in an interview broadcast today. Such a delivery would be “risky and reckless”. Burns went on to say that he hopes Beijing decides against it.
The US government has recently expressed concern about possible arms deliveries from China to Russia. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a similar statement to Burns. Blinken spoke about the possible handover of weapons and ammunition and threatened the consequences in such a case.
In a position paper, China recently called for a ceasefire in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The document also calls for negotiations to begin as soon as possible.
