The star-studded film is based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name, which is an adaptation of Alice Walker’s acclaimed novel.
Although the book was famously adapted into a feature film in the 1980s starring Oprah Winfrey and Whoopi Goldberg, the new film is not a remake of the old one.
Rather, the latest film adaptation of “The Color Purple” is based directly on the stage musical, which first premiered on Broadway in 2005.
As the purple carpet was rolled out in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Ciara, 38, was a sight to behold in an outfit that highlighted her impending motherhood.

At Wednesday’s premiere, she made a splash in an all-white ensemble with a blouse that was open from the chest down, flaunting her stomach.
The dramatic outfit consisted of bell-bottoms, stilettos and a luxuriously long cape that flared out behind her to form an extravagant train.
The Rooted singer highlighted her facial features with makeup and accentuated the look by framing her face with a pair of drop earrings.

Ciara also managed to chat a bit with the film’s director, Blitz Bazawule, who was dressed in purple to match the theme.

“The Color Purple,” which stars “The Little Mermaid” star Halle Bailey as a younger version of Ciara’s character, is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
Ciara and Russell tied the knot in 2016 and have since welcomed two children together: Sienna, six, and Win, three.
The couple also raises Ciara’s nine-year-old son Future together, whom she had with the rapper of the same name.
In August, Ciara and Russell announced their latest pregnancy with an Instagram video filmed during their anniversary trip to Japan the month before.
