Ciara delved deeper into her past relationship with rapper Future and shared details about the relationship’s implosion in a new podcast interview.
She spoke about how she realized her relationship wasn’t going to work in the long term while chatting with host Alex Cooper on Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.
According to the 37-year-old hitmaker, it wasn’t until after the birth of her first child with the superstar rapper that she realized they weren’t meant to be in a long-term relationship.
Although she kept her statements about her 39-year-old ex vague, Ciara laughed off a question about what “co-parenting” with the rapper was like in a September interview.
Ciara, now expecting her fourth and third children with husband Russell Wilson, likened the realization that she and her ex didn’t have a future together to a complete change of taste.
The end is near: Ciara, 37, admitted on the Call Her Daddy podcast on Wednesday that she knew her relationship with Future was over shortly after she gave birth to her first child with him; seen in Atlanta in 2013
“It’s almost like your taste buds change,” she said on Entertainment Tonight.
“Sometimes you have to look in the mirror and think about yourself. ‘What could I do differently in my life, for example?’ She continued. “I’m looking for a change, but what does that mean?”
She and Future (real name: Nayvadius DeMun Cash) began dating in 2012 and in May 2014 they welcomed their son Future Zahir.
However, the relationship didn’t last long, and in response to his alleged infidelity, they separated in August of that year.
She added that she became more serious after becoming a mother, implying that Future didn’t have the same maturity.
“When you have a child it’s very important to me, there’s no time to play around,” she explained. “I am now responsible for a different life. So what do I do, how do I think about it?”
Ciara continued, saying she’s looking for “joy” and wants to “make sure my cup is full” when she’s in a relationship.
But her short time with Future apparently left her feeling exhausted and “tired.”
Falling out of love: “It’s almost like your taste buds change,” she said on Entertainment Tonight. “When you’re tired, you’re tired and no one wants to be tired all the time,” she continued.
“These are things that come to mind as I process them when I experience a pivotal moment in my life,” Ciara added.
Just a year after her split from Future, the singer began another relationship with no end in sight.
In 2015, she and quarterback Russell Wilson began dating and in March 2016, they got engaged.
The lovebirds tied the knot in July of that year at a castle in Cheshire, England.
Ciara apparently didn’t change her tastes after giving birth to her first child, six-year-old daughter Sienna, with Wilson.
The high-profile couple then welcomed a second child, a son called Win, three, and announced their fourth pregnancy – and third with Russell – in August this year.
Even though she and Russell have raised their four children, Ciara seems to have had a hard time co-parenting with her future ex – to the point that she burst out laughing at the very concept.
Making it work: Ciara started dating Russell Wilson in late 2015. They got engaged in March 2016 and married that summer. While chatting with The Shade Room’s Thembi Mawema in September, she burst out laughing after Mawema asked her: “What’s co-parenting like for you?”
Mawema replied: “I’m dead,” but Ciara assured her there were no hard feelings by replying: “You’re amazing.”
