Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber meddles in ‘Nepo baby’ debate: ‘Won’t deny the privilege I have’

Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber shared her thoughts on the “Nepo baby” debate raging in Hollywood when she appeared on the cover of Elle magazine’s February issue.

The 21-year-old model and actress – who the 56-year-old supermodel shares with husband Rande Gerber, 60, spoke on the cover about the label “Nepo Baby,” a recently coined acronym for “nepotism babies.” Interview accompanying the shooting.

“I will not deny the privilege I have,” Gerber told the outlet.

“Even if it’s just the fact that I have a really great source of information and someone who gives me great advice, I feel very lucky for that alone.

“My mom used to joke, ‘If I could call and book a Chanel campaign, it would be for me, not you,'” Gerber joked.

“But I also met great people through my mother who I can now work with.”

Gerber began modeling at the age of 10 when she landed a campaign for Versace’s Young Versace line for children and juniors. Gerber made her debut at New York Fashion Week when she was 16, walking for Calvin Klein’s Spring 2018 collection in September 2017.

During Spring 2018 Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Paris and Milan, she walked the catwalk for major fashion houses such as Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Prada.

Crawford and Gerber walked together during the Versace Spring 2018 runway show in Milan. In recent years, Gerber has fronted campaigns for top designer labels and has appeared on numerous magazine covers, including Vogue’s coveted ‘Big Four’, a feat she completed at the age of 18.

Gerber made her acting debut in the 2016 TV movie Sister Cities and has starred in FX’s American Horror Stories and American Horror Story: Double Feature. The California native told Elle that acting is now her “main focus.” She explained she also sees a difference in the impact of nepotism between the acting and modeling industries.

“It’s so different in acting,” she said. “No artist will sacrifice their vision for someone’s child. Art just isn’t made that way, and what interests me is art.

“Furthermore, nobody wants to work with someone who is annoying and not easy to deal with and not nice. Yes, nepotism is rampant, but I think if that’s actually what people make of it, we’d see more of it.”

The 2018 Fashion Awards ‘Model of the Year’ winner also shared some career tips her famous mom had given her.

“Be on time,” Gerber said. “Take the time to learn people’s names and be nice to everyone. If you are not grateful and happy to be there, there is someone who would be.

“Even when I was really tired or wanted to go home or felt lonely, I would remind myself how lucky I was. Another thing she said to me was, ‘I wish I wrote more down,’ because you think you’ll remember those amazing moments forever, and one day it’s hard to know what that was for a shoot, where it happened and when. And so I wrote it down; I kept a diary.

During her interview with Elle, Gerber also reflected on growing up with a supermodel mom and the collective “aftershock” when Crawford walked into a room.

“Yes, the sea parts,” she said. “Especially when I started modeling, everyone was like, ‘Oh my god, your mom is so iconic,’ and I was like, ‘She’s my mom.’ “
