According to the biography of Last.fm, a platform that collects information about the names of the songs, Cindy started her acting career in childhood, graduated from the Macunaíma Theater School in São Paulo and starred in musicals such as “O Mágico de Oz”, ” All That Jazz”, “Black Cat”.
She released her first solo album entitled “Cindy Grite Alto” in 2006, which focused on hip hop after she burst into the limelight with “Antônia”. In 2009 he was one of the stars of the show “Dr. Sketchy” in Brazil. In 2010 she did pocket shows alongside Negra Li in several cinemas in Germany and promoted the 2007 film “Antônia”, a film adaptation of the series.
“Antonia”
Antônia aired on TV Globo between November 2006 and October 2007 and is a twoseason television series produced by O2 Films and starring Negra Li, Leilah Moreno, Quelynah and Cindy Mendes. The success earned him a 2007 International Emmy nomination for Best Miniseries.
The story follows four childhood friends from the Brasilândia neighborhood on the outskirts of São Paulo, who formed a hiphop girl group called Antônia. Preta (Negra Li), Barbarah (Quelinah), Mayah (Leilah Moreno) and Lena (Cindy Mendes) fight to take their names nationally.
The series is based on Tatá Amaral’s film of the same name, about artists’ struggle for mainstream status in a routine marked by sexism, violence and poverty. In 2008, a DVD of “Antônia” featuring the songs from the production was released by Som Livre.
