Cindy Mendes, one of the actresses of the series and movie “Antônia” (2006), died yesterday at the age of 38 in São Paulo. Friends of the singer and costars Negra Li, Leilah Moreno and Quelynah mourned the artist’s death and stressed the lack of recognition.
In an Instagram post, Leilah shared a series of photos to mourn the death of her friend. “Today Cindy was resting and her heart is heavy to deliver this news! Thank you for being part of such an important project that represents girls from all over Brazil. Your rhyme, your voice, your interpretation will be immortalized in cinema and in our hearts,” he wrote.
She went on to say that Cindy’s work has little recognition in the country. “Be assured that you have fulfilled your time on earth and made many people happy! Yes, you shined a lot as a diva! Misunderstood and ‘underrated’ diva, as you used to say. Maybe one day everyone will hear your art and know your worth! All my love and strength to the family. My condolences to all fans and friends! We’re still here in love and we miss you!” Leilah said.
“Cindy, I have no words to say goodbye. I just have to thank you, sister. We made history and you were a part of it. thank you for your talent You are much light! Now you will shine in the sky. My beautiful sister. You are and always will be an Antonia! I love you,” Quelynah said.
Negra Li, on the other hand, wrote “mourning” in her Instagram stories. Artists including Emicida, Pathy de Jesus and Drik Barbosa also mourned the actress’ death in comments on Leilah’s release.
