Cirque du Soleil A new show honoring Guy Lafleur

Cirque du Soleil: A new show honoring Guy Lafleur – DansLesCoulisses

On April 22, 2022, Guy Lafleur passed away after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 70 years old.

The death of Mr. Lafleur made headlines as he particularly shaped the imagination of Quebecers on the ice in the 70’s and 80’s. He was, is and always will be a legend in the eyes of so many people, and rightly so.

With this in mind, Cirque du Soleil has decided to create a new show in honor of the blonde demon.

The piece entitled “Guy! Guy! Guy! – Homage to Guy Lafleur” will be performed at the Cogeco Amphitheater in Trois-Rivières from July 19th to August 19th.

Creative Director Daniel Ross says, “Don’t expect a biographical work or a hockey show.”

Rather, it is to “revive the joy, the sense of pride and the joy of the game that it gave us,” as Daniel Ross told the Journal de Montréal:

With “GUY! GUY! GUY! » we want to touch the hearts of Quebecers who, with one voice and the same unifying dynamic, sang, sang, applauded the exploits and highlights of this brilliant hockey player. –Daniel Ross

It’s obviously something special and it’s a very nice thought.

And I have the impression that the Cogeco amphitheater in Trois-Rivières will be packed every time this new show is performed.

While Mr. Ross says don’t expect an all-hockey show, many elements of the sport will be represented in the play. The story is broken into three different time periods to talk about his childhood with the Canadian, Canadian to retirement, and finally his final retirement.

Scenographer Yves Aucoin even thinks that spectators should feel like they are in an arena, as they will see banners, pennants and even a scoreboard.

Kudos to the organization Cirque du Soleil for the idea. That’s the least we can say.
