City councilor demands Nando Reis not be paid after criticizing Bolsonaro

Singer reportedly said during a presentation in Maceió that Brazil will only be “right” when the former president is arrested

Councilor Leonardo Dias (PL) wants Maceió City Hall to suspend a fee for singer Nando Reis after he criticized former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) during an appearance in the city on Sunday (January 21). The document (full PDF 108 kB) states that the artist said that “Brazil will only be solved when Bolsonaro is arrested”.

“Nando Reis, during a presentation at Verão Massayó, expressed his political opinion in a disproportionate and dishonorable manner against former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro, stating that “Brazil can only be solved if Bolsonaro is arrested.” I ask Your Excellency to order the suspension of the payment of the artist's fee until it is determined whether there may be any unlawful behavior on the part of the musician,” reads the document sent to Mayor João Henrique Caldas (PL).

Nando Reis is a supporter of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). During last year's elections, he took part in a recording with various artists of a song with the refrain “Turn, Turn Vote” in support of the PT member. At the time, Lula articulated a desire to win the votes of other competitors in the election by promoting the socalled “useful vote.”

O Power360 attempted to contact Nando's team to inquire about a position following a request from councilor Leonardo Dias, but received no response at the time of publication of this report. The space remains open for manifestation.
