Claude Meunier on Serge Thériault: “He found a kind of peace” – Le Journal de Montréal

On December 24th, Claude Meunier and Serge Thériault took part in a special radio broadcast on ICI Première. It was the first time in twenty years that the long-time accomplices took part in an interview together. And Claude Meunier could see that his friend was fine. “He found a kind of peace, a kind of happiness, a joy of being there,” he says.

Hosted by Stéphane Laporte, the two-hour special show entitled “Les flocons reunites!” allowed several friends of Meunier and Thériault, such as Marc Messier, Guylaine Tremblay and Michel Rivard, to pay tribute to the two comedians.

“I was very surprised by the scope of the interview,” Claude Meunier told the Journal. There were lots of surprises. We knew absolutely nothing. And the guests were so generous. It was very moving.

From this interview it is clear how good Serge Thériault seems to be. The famous Môman performer, who retreated from the spotlight for several years, made a name for himself with a brief appearance in the final episode of the new season of La Petite Vie. And he also took part in a special program about Les Boys.

“He decided to surround himself well on a medical level,” says Claude. He looks better. But it's up to him to talk about it! I've never liked talking about Serge's condition. I think it depends on him. But he's looking pretty good these days. It was fun to see that.”

Friends for 50 years

The two friends began talking regularly again. “We have resumed a kind of communication that was less present because Serge no longer spoke to anyone,” says Claude. But he reconnected with everyone. And that's a lot. We’ve been friends for about 50 years.”

In the ICI premiere show, Serge Thériault even said that he would like to get back into the spotlight and that the public hasn't heard the end of him yet. Would Claude Meunier imagine doing a project with him again?

“It’s up to him to see what he wants to do,” he replies. There is no doubt that he has not lost his talent. I honestly don't know what he wants to do. We didn’t talk about it.”

Serge Thériault recently went into the studio with Claude Meunier to lend his voice to two songs from La Famille Denuy's western project. The two friends have remade songs from Paul and Paul's era, Bonjour Huguette and C'est Noël, for a future album.

Thériault might even join Meunier on stage to sing a song or two. “But we’re not here right now. Nothing has been confirmed for any guest,” explains Claude.
