Claudia had already had three operations on her heart, which was weakened by therapy for the treatment of breast cancer in 1986. The artist had five bypass operations in 2009 after suffering a heart attack. In 2012 he underwent an aortic valve replacement procedure and had to place four stents. Two years later he suffered cardiac arrest and was fitted with a pacemaker.
Although he was not involved in the actress’ treatment, the cardiologist recalled being contacted by singer Zélia Duncan, who asked for a medical opinion on her friend’s clinical case.
“heart dies”
“During a heart attack, part of the heart muscle dies. This is an area that, like a scar, never recovers and, depending on its size, impairs heart function and reduces pumping capacity,” explained Scherr.
According to the doctor, there are currently devices and medications that give patients a better quality of life. However, these mechanisms can lose efficiency over time.
“There comes a time when they are insufficient to keep the heart working properly, which can lead to death from heart failure or arrhythmia. In fact, failure is the most common cause of hospitalization and readmission worldwide become,” he added.
