Climate change, how our planet has changed: NASA’s “time machine” from 1880 to today

Over 140 years of climate change on the planet. In a video released by NASA, one can observe a series of changes that have literally shocked the Earth.
In the first part of the video, a kind of time lapse is played about the rise in global temperature from 1880 to today, with all the consequences and dangers that this brings with it for the world population. In a graphic below, NASA shows the global distribution and change in carbon dioxide concentration observed by NASA’s AIRS atmospheric infrared sounder over 20 years. Even in this case, the increase in carbon dioxide is obvious and extremely worrying. The following animation illustrates the thinning of Arctic ice from 1979 to the present, the rapid retreat of the Greenland ice sheet due to calving and melting of glaciers, which has led to global sea level rise of 0.8 millimeters per year in the last 20 years alone . To reverse the trend, it is necessary for the world’s governments to implement a series of measures agreed at the global level: reducing the use of fossil fuels, stopping deforestation, less intensive livestock farming and therefore a reduction in meat consumption.
Emissions have risen over the past decade, reaching their highest ever peak and are on the verge of exceeding the 1.5° Celsius limit set by the 2015 Paris Agreement. Experts fear that without the efforts of all states, global warming will increase to 2.8°C by the end of the century. The real risk is that by 2050, over 1.6 billion urban residents will suffer from average quarterly temperatures of at least 35°C. In addition, it is estimated that almost half of the world’s population is at risk of floods, heat, drought, fires and storms due to climate change. (LaPresse)
