CMKZ Radio Baraguá – According to Lavrov, Russia and Ukraine could reach an agreement

Palma Soriano- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that there are opportunities for his country and Ukraine to reach an agreement as the West has begun to understand its years of grave mistakes.

In an interview with Serbian media, the senior official said it was unlikely that those countries would recognize it “loudly” for “obvious” reasons.

He said Russia nevertheless has reason to believe that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has heard Moscow’s most serious and legitimate security concerns and is beginning to understand them.

On the other hand, he noted that the European Union (EU) had proved its absolute inability to be a guarantor for resolving conflicts, as it did in February 2014 when it reached an agreement between the government and the opposition to resolve the situation guaranteed in Ukraine.

He reminded that when the opposition broke the agreement, “the EU just kept silent and started talking about some democratic processes”.

According to Lavrov, the West has made it its task to slow down Russia’s development by imposing sanctions, so it will always find a reason to apply them.

“The goal is not to solve any specific problem, but to stop the development of Russia in a strategic and geopolitical sense. So we are very aware of the West’s ability to look for those reasons,” he said.

The head of Russian diplomacy stressed that punitive measures against his country never stopped and were in force even before 2014, when the coup d’état took place in Kyiv.

In his opinion, the West is disappointed that its plan for the final development of Ukraine has not been fulfilled, which is why the introduced sanctions meant its anger at such a failure.

Russia began a military operation in Ukraine on February 24 after authorities in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics requested help to repel mounting aggression from Kyiv.

Previously, Moscow had recognized the independence and sovereignty of both territories and signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with their leaders, which included the establishment of diplomatic relations and military assistance.

In his speech informing about the start of the operation, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that his goal is to protect the people of Donbass from the abuses and genocide in Kyiv over the past eight years, in addition to “demilitarization” and “denazification.” “. Ukraine.
