Sports Seriously, USA TODAY
A strange college football weekend full of near misses but few real surprises led to minor changes in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
The top eight teams remain the same, led by No. 1 Georgia. The Bulldogs needed a second-half surge to overtake South Carolina, but easily maintained their top spot and were picked first in all but two of 65 votes cast this week.
Michigan also got off to a slow start against Bowling Green, but remains ranked No. 2 and retains a No. 1 vote. Florida State narrowly escaped Boston College and remains at No. 3, followed by Ohio State at No. 4. The Buckeyes overwhelmed Western Kentucky to claim the final No. 1 seed on the eve of their big showdown with Notre Dame.
Southern California, the only squad in the top 25 not playing this weekend, remains No. 5, followed by Texas, Penn State and Washington.

Thanks to Tennessee’s loss at Florida, the shuffle begins at No. 9. Notre Dame jumps two spots to ninth, setting up its third top-10 matchup of the season with the Buckeyes next week. Utah also moves up two spots to round out the top 10, while Tennessee slips to No. 20. Alabama, ranked 12th after a weak win at South Florida, slipped out of the top 10 for just the second time since the 2015 season.
Washington State is the only newcomer in the top 25, coming in at No. 24, just ahead of fellow Pac-12 member UCLA.
Kansas State is eliminated after a loss at Missouri.
