The European Union bans the import of products derived from deforestation. Parliament and Member States have reached an agreement allowing imports of products such as cocoa, Coffee and soy if they contribute to deforestation. Among the affected products are also thePalm oilthe woodthe beef and the eraser. Along with related materials such as Leather, chocolate, furniture, paper and cardboard. The import of these products will be banned if they come from deforested areas after December 2020 wwf currently theEU is responsible for 16% of global deforestation from its imports and is the second destroyer of tropical forests after China. That president of environmental commission of the European Parliament Pascal Kannin spoke of a “historic agreement: It is the first law in the world against it deforestation. The range will be extended to include rubber, coal and palm oil derivatives». According to the agreement, the EU Commission will classify the countries and regions at risk. The percentage of controls of entrepreneurs is carried out according to the risk level of the country. The percentages are: 9% for high risk, 3% for standard risk e 1% for low risk. Sanctions are provided for non-compliance. The maximum amount of the fine is set at a minimum 4% of the operator’s total annual turnover in the EU.
