Colin Farrell has announced that he will begin filming the spin-off series The Batman in just a few weeks
Colin Farrell shares some details about his upcoming role in the new Penguin series for HBO Max.
The Irish actor – who was honored for his work in The Banshees Of Inisherin during the Palm Springs International Film Festival – has announced he will begin filming The Batman spin-off series in February, with just weeks to go is removed.
And while walking the red carpet at the gala, Farrell confessed to Variety that he had no idea he would be asked to star in a standalone series about The Penguin while he was making The Batman.
Colin Farrell, 46, spoke about reprising his role as The Penguin in the upcoming series for HBO Max during his appearance at the 2023 Palm Springs International Film Festival
“The only thing I had was that I couldn’t quite explore the character as much as I wanted to,” Farrell, 46, told reporter Marc Malkinat at the gala event.
“There was all this extraordinary work done by [makeup and prosthetics artists] Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine and his team and I just thought it was the tip of the iceberg, forgive the pun that we were going to do the six or seven scenes that we did in the film. I was grateful to them, but I wanted more.”
The native of Castleknock, County Dublin, Ireland added: “Honest to God, every thought I’ve had about an extended series has been related to Mike Marino’s work. All I know is that it had so much to do with it. Age it up, age it down. He’s just a genius, Mike, so it was his work that was really the inspiration.

It was Variety that first reported that Farrell had signed on to star in The Penguin in December 2021, which was then followed up by HBO Max last March, who officially serialized the show.
Details for the series have been kept under wraps but are believed to take place immediately after the events of The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson in the title role.
It has been confirmed that Cristin Milioti will play Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Gotham’s mob boss Carmine Falcone, who was played by John Turturro in the film.
