Colin Kaepernick wants to play. The former NFL quarterback became a free agent in 2017 and got nothing but a visit to the Seahawks in 2017.

In 2020, coach Pete Carroll said through The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell that the Seahawks “wouldn’t hesitate (by signing Kaepernick) if Russ (Wilson) ever gets confused and can’t play or anything like that.” Kaep would be a great candidate for the presidency. He deserves to play.”

Two years later Wilson in Denver; The Seahawks are looking for a quarterback; and Kaepernick remains available.

During a long conversation about free will being a second chance for players, Carroll mentioned Kaepernick without being asked.

“I was thinking about another guy,” Carroll said. “You you can ask questions about Colin Kaepernick. I know. You ask me, so let me just put it out there. He contacted me the other day. Said, “Hey, I’d like to take a picture. I am working. He sent me several videos. Next thing I know, he’s training with Tyler Lockett. I don’t know how it happened. Does this guy deserve a second try? I think yes. Somewhere. I don’t know if it’s here. I do not know where is it. I don’t know if it’s even in football. I do not know.”

It feels like the NFL has run out of opportunities for Kaepernick to play again. Even the Seahawks didn’t call Kaepernick last season when Wilson was injured.

Kaepernick has not played since 2016, parting ways with the 49ers during the 2017 offseason. The NFL turned against him for being the first player to protest social injustice and police brutality during the playing of the national anthem.

In 2019, the NFL and attorneys for Kaepernick and Eric Reid reached a settlement over a players’ conspiracy lawsuit against the league.

It will be a big surprise if the Seahawks or any other NFL team sign Kaepernick or even give him a workout.
