Status: 02/27/2023 00:25

At Cologne/Bonn airport, the union ver.di started the warning strikes announced during the night. Düsseldorf Airport is also affected during the day – hundreds of flights are likely to be cancelled.

According to the union ver.di, the announced warning strike at Cologne/Bonn airport began on Sunday night. Aviation security officials were the first to stop working. This means that no cargo can be brought to and from the airport. The warning strike is expected to last until Tuesday night. It affects different areas of the airport at different departure points. A warning strike is also planned at Düsseldorf Airport. It is scheduled to start this Monday morning.

The background to the shutdown is negotiations for public sector officials at the federal and municipal levels, as well as national negotiations for aviation security officials. Currently, collective bargaining is being carried out for both groups of employees.

Hundreds of canceled flights

Due to the labor dispute, almost all planned passenger flights in Cologne are likely to be canceled on Monday. In Düsseldorf, it was assumed that nearly 200 take-offs and landings would be canceled – with 330 flights originally planned for Monday.

In addition to the two largest airports in the most populous federal state, warning strikes are also expected to take place in many other areas of public life in NRW on Monday, such as on buses and light rail, in kindergartens and offices. Several rallies are also planned.
