Week 5 of the college football season brought more shenanigans as 10 teams in the AP Top 25 suffered losses. But with No. 6 USC, No. 12 Utah and No. 13 Oregon taking care of business at home against league enemies, the Pac-12 avoided significant carnage in a night after No. 15 Washington fell to UCLA .
The Trojans put up a nice offensive comeback in their 42-25 win over Arizona State, with quarterback Caleb Williams completing 27 of 37 passes for 348 yards and three touchdowns. Williams added another result when he caught last week’s lackluster performance in a 17-14 win over Oregon State in his rearview mirror.
With games against Washington State 4-1 and Utah 4-1 a bye week ago, the Trojans needed to patch things up. With offense clicking for most of the night, USC allowed Arizona State to score on its first three possessions before defense found a foothold in the third quarter. Ultimately, a four-yard touchdown connection between Williams and Kyron Hudson with 10:54 remaining gave the Trojans a 42-25 lead and ended any drama.
