The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, announced that this country has been selected to host the COP16 Biodiversity Summit, scheduled to take place in autumn 2024.
This event is scheduled to start on October 21, 2024 and end on November 1 of the same year.
“We will be hosting COP16 on biodiversity next year. Delegations from nearly 200 countries will come to Colombia to defend life on the planet. “Colombia is the world power of life,” celebrated the president on the social network X.
The head of the environment and sustainable development department, Susana Muhamad, also celebrated the choice of Colombia as headquarters.
In this sense, he stated that his country reaffirms its commitment to the care and conservation of biodiversity.
Likewise, he explained that COP16 takes place every two years and brings challenges in terms of protecting the world's biodiversity.
