Colombian President Pays Official Visit to Costa Rica

Colombian President Gustavo Petro arrived in Costa Rica this Sunday, where he will address a comprehensive work agenda that includes issues such as human rights, climate change, energy transition, sustainable tourism, trade and migration.

At the Presidential House in San Jose, the Colombian President and his counterpart Rodrigo Chaves met with delegates from both governments this Monday to discuss issues of interest to these nations.

As announced by the presidency of the South American country, the head of state will also “hold a working meeting with the judges of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), at which he will reaffirm the Court’s commitment.” .

Petro is also recognized for his involvement in finding peace in Colombia. In this sense, he receives the title Doctor Honoris Causa at the University for Peace, an academic institution of the United Nations system, becoming the first Colombian to receive this distinction.

On the other hand, the Colombian government highlights as one of the main concerns that Costa Rica exempts its citizens from the visa requirement in order to promote the mobility of businessmen and tourists for mutual benefit.

Likewise, it is assured that they will “repeat their invitation to the countries of the region, including Costa Rica, to the high-level meeting that will take place in Cali from September 7th to 9th to analyze the new approach that should be given .” to the problematic drug world”.
