Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday took offense at Giants rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux’s Snow Angel celebration after a first-half sack that injured quarterback Nick Foles in Indianapolis’ 38-10 loss on Sunday.
Saturday noted his offensive line should have stopped Thibodeaux’s jubilation.
“Yeah, tasteless from the celebration afterwards, just rubbish, not a fan of it at all,” Saturday said on Monday when asked about the celebration. per The Athletic. “And yes, disappointed from the O-Line perspective and for teammates in general. We protect our own. I mean you all know me man. I have been here for a long time. So I’ll just kick lightly. Obviously I didn’t like it at all and I’ll leave it at that.
Thibodeaux strapped Foles for a 9-yard sack with 50 seconds left in the first half of Sunday’s Big Blue romp. Thibodeaux immediately rolled onto his back and began making slow angels as a hunched-over Foles writhed in pain beside him.
It looked bad, but the immediacy of the celebration meant the rookie didn’t notice Foles’ injury.
“After a sack you celebrate,” said Thibodeaux on Sunday after the win. “I think as soon as I realized he was hurt, we started getting up. When you’re partying, don’t look at who’s doing what. I hope he gets well and I hope he’s fine. “
Obviously, Saturday has a different take on how things have played out in his sixth straight loss as interim head coach.
Foles’ injury kicks the QB out of the season finale against Houston this Sunday. Sam Ehlinger will start with Matt Ryan as backup.
