Colts speculated as a quarterback candidate that could be traded early in the second round of the NFL draft

According to NFL Network Ian Rapportthat Indianapolis Colts are among the speculated suitors who might try to trade from early second round back to late first round to pick a top quarterback prospect:

“I would also keep an eye on Seattle and get back into the first round early in the second round,” Rapoport said. “The Falcons, who still have needs at quarterback, could be a team that could be interested in that as well. Maybe the colts. If at least three quarterbacks are taken in the first round, chances are someone will trade back from second to first. Seattle would be a potential team to watch out for.”

freedom Malik Willis or Cincinnati Desmond Rider could be potential targets for the Colts at this point – in such a theoretical draft day maneuver.

However, in what is considered a weaker quarterback draft class and with experienced starters Matt Ryan already in the crease as a projected two-year stopgap (and with no first-round pick available), realistically such a move seems a year early for the Colts — especially with a much greater need for position at wide receiver and elsewhere on the roster.

It’s not entirely out of the question, but it would still be a little surprising if the Colts upgraded and took a quarterback — for something that could be more of a luxury choice for the franchise, at least ahead of the 2022 season. Granted in 2023 is fair game.
