Company says In-N-Out Burger is closing in Oakland due to rising crime – KGO-TV

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) — In-N-Out Burger is closing its Oakland location in a few weeks due to crime, according to Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick.

The company told ABC7's Dion Lim on Sunday that it was closing due to ongoing crime, although it had taken steps to create safer conditions.

The Oakland restaurant at 8300 Oakport St. has been open for nearly two decades, Warnick wrote.

In a statement he writes, among other things:

“We have made the decision to close our In-N-Out Burger location in Oakland, California due to ongoing crime issues. Although we have repeatedly taken steps to create safer conditions, our customers and employees regularly fall victim to car break-ins. Damage to property, theft and armed robbery.”

“We are grateful to the local community who have supported us for over 18 years and we recognize that this closure will negatively impact our employees and their families. Additionally, this site remains a busy and profitable location for the company, but is our top priority.” “The safety and well-being of our customers and employees must be ensured – we cannot ask them to visit or be in an unsafe environment to work,” he continued.

Warnick said employees may be reassigned or receive severance pay. The last day of operation is Sunday March 24th.
