Two arrests were made on Monday following the theft of computer equipment containing personal data from 10,000 current and former employees of the Center de recherche du CHU de Québec-Université Laval (CRCHU).

The institution states that it will inform the people whose sensitive data appeared on the stolen computers during the night of June 5-6, which represents a significant number of people.
“There are about 10,000 files. This applies, for example, to people who work or have worked in the department, employees of the department or interns,” explains Jean-Thomas Grantham, Deputy CEO, Public and Governmental Affairs at CHU.

He adds that the data concerned relates to the last five to seven years.
“There’s personal contact information and, depending on the individual and their connection to the research center, maybe sample checks or social security numbers,” adds Mr. Grantham.
CHU cannot determine whether information has fallen into the hands of malicious individuals.
The hospital center states that the stolen material contained no data from patients or participants in research projects.

The SPVQ made two arrests on Wednesday and conducted a search in Beaupré, which found some of the stolen equipment.
Marie-Ève Béliveau, 40, and Anthony Roy, 32, were charged with burglary, theft and receiving stolen goods at the Quebec City Courthouse on Wednesday morning.
In 2015, Marie-Ève Béliveau was sentenced to two years in prison for five robberies or attempted robberies within six months.
She then collected more than 85 records of theft and breach of terms or obligations.
She stole from everywhere, in jewelry stores, grocery stores, hardware stores or high-end boutiques.
