A bag containing a computer and two USB memory cards containing confidential Olympic data was stolen in Paris this week. According to the AFP news agency, the equipment will be subject to security plans for the Olympic Games. However, French police claim that the confidential data relates to traffic in the host city during the Olympics.

The bag belonged to an engineer at the Paris City Hall. He claims he left the luggage in the designated space above his seat on a train at Gare du Nord, one of Paris' largest stations. The train driver decided to change trains due to a delay and discovered that the bag was missing. He reported the incident to the Gare du Nord police station on Monday.

On Wednesday, French traffic police announced they had opened an investigation into the case.

“Although he was careful to point out that a professional USB memory card was included in his bag, it is important to note that this card only contained references to traffic in Paris during the Olympics and not to sensitive security plans,” he said Statement from the traffic police.
