Concerts in the Cinema: Queen was filmed in Montreal in 1981 on Imax – TVA Nouvelles

After Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, it is now the turn of the group Queen, whose concert was filmed in Montreal in 1981, and which will conquer the big screens of cinemas from January 18th to 21st using Imax technology.

This will be “the very first time” that a concert by singer Freddie Mercury’s group will be broadcast in a cinema, according to a joint press release from Imax, a company that promises an immersive experience, and Pathé Live, a channel that broadcasts the Screening in each room offers cultural events.

Known as “Queen Rock Montreal,” this live performance has previously been released on VHS or DVD. The concert begins with a charged version of “We will rock you”. There are other standards such as “Somebody to love”, “Under Pressure”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We are the Champions”.

“I don’t think we realized at the time that this film captured one of the highest peaks of all Queen concerts during our onstage glory days,” comments guitarist Brian May in the press release.

“The director focused on Freddie” and thus delivered “the most precious and intimate recording” of the “full power” of the singer, who died of AIDS in 1991.

“Queen Rock Montreal” is scheduled to open in 450 Imax theaters in the U.S., Canada, U.K., France, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Brazil and Mexico.
