“The plankton? What a fun conference topic…’ and yet get ready to discover the extraordinary and vital world of ‘little sea creatures’. Pierre Mollo, explorer for 40 years and a passionate person, invites us to dive to discover the infinite small oceans on which all humanity depends.

Plankton is now a planetary “problem” and not just the subject of scientific studies. Even if it is not visible to the naked eye, plankton is still an essential element in the balance of our planet. When the plankton disappears, so does humanity. Their ignorance of the general public is a factor in their fragility. Just as much would have to be mobilized for it as for the survival of the polar bear. Today, all land activities, especially the input of chemicals, heavy metals and excess fertilizers, cause plankton to deplete in quantity and quality. Pierre MOLLO will present this microscopic world by recalling its important role in our ecosystem, because being at the base of the marine food chain, plankton also produce half of the oxygen of planet Earth and could be used as food. it contains natural antibiotics and is very rich in vitamins and trace elements. The speaker will also touch on the many experiments that have been carried out around the world to propose several ways to save the plankton so that the recolonization of the seas does not remain a utopia.

Pierre MOLLO, teacher-researcher in marine biology, specialist in plankton, director of documentaries on marine ecology and maritime professions, co-author of the book L’implication plancton, l’écologie de l’invisible published in November 2009 by Editions Charles Leopold Maier
