Congress votes on a package for Israel that Biden rejects

The House of Representatives will vote Tuesday on a $17.6 billion package for Israel that Joe Biden rejects. The American president is calling for these funds to be linked to aid for Ukraine.

Republicans in Congress and the Democratic leader are locked in a sensitive dispute over American aid to these two countries.

Conservative lawmakers, most of whom are close to Donald Trump, want at any cost to release new funds to Israel, a historic ally of the United States that is at war with Hamas.

However, many of them oppose approving new funding for Kiev because they believe it is not up to the American taxpayer to finance a conflict that has stalled.

Aware that the sense of urgency in Washington has waned since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Joe Biden has been calling for the envelopes for the two countries to appear in the same bill since October.

The vote on Israel scheduled by House Republicans on Tuesday is an attempt to force him to act.

To pass, this bill must be voted on in the House and Senate and then signed by the President.

However, the Democratic General Staff announced that they would vote against this text and Joe Biden has already warned that he would veto it.
