Connor Bedard couldn’t have asked for anything better for his first game at the United Center, but the Chicago Blackhawks still lost 5-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.
The Canadian prodigy had fans jumping out of their seats when he sent a shot into the top right corner of Aden Hill even though the game was only 1:30 minutes old. However, it was enough to motivate the Golden Knights, who went on to score five of the game’s other seven goals.
Corey Perry also hit the mark for the Blackhawks. In the victory, Quebec’s Nicolas Roy was named the second star of the game thanks to his 13th-second goal in the final period.
A first goal for Adam Fantilli
The third overall pick in the most recent draft, Adam Fantilli, moved the ropes for the first time in his career in the National League (NHL) in the duel between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild.
Fantilli gave his team a 4-3 lead on the power play with a wrist shot from the slot. Furthermore, it was the Blue Jackets who won this game with a score of 5 to 4.
Matthew Knies is on fire for the Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Matthew Knies had a tough night, finishing with two goals and an assist in his game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Although Toronto scored the first goal of the matchup, the Lightning scored three unanswered goals in the first period, which convinced Sheldon Keefe to take Ilya Samsonov off the net for Joseph Woll. The 25-year-old goalkeeper stopped the 29 pucks that reached him.
It was John Tavares who completed his team’s comeback and got the red light in extra time. Max Domi, who had a difficult start with his new team, rolled up his sleeves by contributing to Knies’ two goals in the third period.
A heartbreaking loss for the Flyers
Despite two two-goal comebacks, the Philadelphia Flyers lost 5-4 in overtime to the Dallas Stars. The latter played with enthusiasm and allowed three shorthanded goals, including two within 47 seconds in the third period.
Junior Wyatt Johnson scored a goal and two assists, while Joe Pavelski scored the game-winner in overtime. For the Flyers, Travis Konecny continued his tremendous momentum, scoring two goals. He has already scored five goals since the start of the season.
Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson had a complicated game, allowing five goals on 25 shots.
