Starting tomorrow (Tuesday, July 4th), the consumption of alcoholic beverages will be legal in Victoriaville’s parks.
The decision was announced tonight (Monday) during the city council meeting. However, from the time the park opens until 8:30 p.m., consumption is only permitted for eating.
Bringing your own alcoholic beverages is not permitted during a city-sanctioned event. “With this change in regulations, we want citizens to be able to take advantage of the good weather and many green spaces that Victoriaville has to offer to get together and have a picnic,” Mayor Antoine Tardif said.
The city is a pioneer because, according to Mayor Tardif, only a few municipalities in Quebec have introduced such regulations.
“We had done a pilot project during the pandemic and it was very conclusive,” he said.
The City of Victoriaville asks that citizens respect the environment, the furniture and the people on the premises. It is still illegal to be drunk or intoxicated with drugs or other substances in city parks.
