TVA Nouvelles has learned that a Montreal nursing graduate, Jason Aurélien, has filed a class action lawsuit against the Order of Nurses of Quebec in connection with the controversial exam.

Mr. Aurélien, who is represented by lawyer Fernando Belton, is seeking almost $30,000 in damages and financial losses from the order. He claims to have failed the OIIQ exam three times, with scores of 53% in March 2022, 32% in September 2022 and 50% in March 2023. The last and fourth exam, which he completed in September 2023, is waiting He’s still on it for the results: His “body gives up, his head is spinning, his body is heavy, he’s tired and can’t concentrate anymore,” he says.

Calling for collective action, he claims that the multiple failures have caused him, in particular, the fear of not being able to obtain the title of nurse, he expresses doubts about his personal and professional abilities, he is ashamed and lives in difficulties. Isolation, He feels a decline in self-esteem and a feeling of helplessness, periods of depression, loss of income and expenses for exam fees, tutoring, travel, food and accommodation because he had to go to Quebec for one of the exams.

The third progress report from the Commissioner for Professional Licensing, André Gariépy, is the last straw.

The latter emphasized that the massive failure of aspiring nurses in the compulsory entrance exam for the profession last year was not due to the pandemic, as claimed in the regulation, but to the way the exam was corrected.
