A year later, the convoy of truckers met outside Parliament in Ottawa on Saturday afternoon to reaffirm their positions.

About 500 people are expected during the day.

By noon, a few dozen people were present.

The group was given permission to demonstrate until 9:30 p.m.

Elected officials fear the demonstration will continue beyond this time.

Residents say they are concerned about reliving the nearly months-long disruption they experienced last year.

It should be noted that some access to Parliament will be restricted as the Liberal Group meets this weekend in anticipation of returning to Parliament on Monday.

Public tours of Parliament have also been cancelled.

The main thoroughfare outside Parliament, Wellington Street, has remained closed since the 2022 convoy, further disrupting economic activity in the area.

Businessmen like Claude Bonet, owner of the restaurant Le Moulin de Provence, denounce the situation.

“It takes time. Nevertheless, we have felt the effects of the last few months. The economy is not the best at the moment either, but it is clear that we have to reopen the city.
