Corona: 3,557 new infections and fewer hospital patients

The current autumn corona wave continues to subside. According to AGES, 3,557 new infections were reported on Sunday.

The number of patients who tested positive and had to be treated at local hospitals also continued to decline. On Monday morning, there were 2,154 people in the hospital, 176 fewer than on Sunday. 119 people are being treated in intensive care units.


That’s nine less than the day before, but there was only a decrease of one patient in the weekly comparison for the critically ill. A total of 375 fewer infected people now need to be treated in hospital than they did a week ago.

The seven-day incidence dropped to 644.9 cases per 100,000 population. There are currently 88,144 active laboratory-confirmed cases in Austria, 8,500 fewer than the day before. A week ago, 6,606 new infections were recorded. Today’s 3,557 new cases are well below the average for the past seven days, with 8,318 new infections every day.

However, there are also significantly fewer weekend tests. In total, only 12,673 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported in the last 24 hours. Of these, 12,391 were significant PCR tests, the positive rate was 28.7 percent. On average, more than 111,600 PCR tests were performed every day in the last week, with an average of 7.4% of PCR tests being positive. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 5,402,162 confirmed cases in Austria.


Five more deaths were reported, with 37 deaths recorded in the last seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,899 lives in Austria since its inception. 231.5 people per 100,000 people have died as a result of an infection.


530 corona vaccinations were performed on Sunday, 480 of which were booster vaccinations (4th, 5th and all additional vaccination doses). A total of 1,055,008 people have received a booster vaccine so far.
