When Harry attended the coronation of his father, King Charles, he stayed only very briefly on British soil and did not attend any other celebrations.
The reconciliation did not take place. Alone, without his wife Meghan or children Archie and Lilibet to attend his father King Charles’ coronation, Prince Harry did not speak to either his father King Charles or his brother William.
And with rare exceptions, he kept a closed face throughout the ceremony, appeared uncomfortable and walked up the aisle of Westminster Abbey alone. He took his seat in the third row, like his uncle Prince Andrew, who has fallen out of favor since allegations of sexual assault were made against him. As at the Queen’s funeral, Harry was not allowed to wear his uniform. Unlike Andrew, who wore his robes of the Order of the Garter.
Not a look, not a word
Harry certainly exchanged a few words and a few smiles with his cousin Eugenie, pregnant with their second child, and her husband Jack Brooksbank, with his cousin Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, or even with his aunt, Princess Anne, and even the Archbishop of Canterbury. But he exchanged neither a word nor a glance with his father King Charles, who certainly had other things to do, or with his brother Prince William.
The brevity of Prince Harry’s stay is particularly striking. The Chron notes that he stayed on British soil for “28 hours and 42 minutes”. Escaping shortly after the two-hour ceremony, he did not attend the procession and missed the post-coronation “lunch” organized by the royal family, according to British media.
Even Jill Biden, the wife of the American President, stayed the next day to attend the “Big Lunch” outside 10 Downing Street with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The prince admittedly had no official role to play at his father’s coronation, unlike his brother William, and had nothing to do on the Buckingham balcony reserved for working members of the royal family. In fact, the palace had hinted the day before that neither Harry nor Andrew, 5th and 6th respectively in line to the British throne, would have no official role at the coronation.
Archie’s birthday
But Harry left as fast as he could after the coronation ceremony, which lasted two hours. Paparazzi photographed him beaming at Heathrow Airport as he prepared to board a plane to Los Angeles. He was able to arrive in time for the birthday of his son Archie, who celebrated his 4th birthday this Saturday May 6th.
It was the second time Harry had been to the UK since his memoir was published last January, and the first time he had seen his family again. In his book The deputyPrince Harry certainly doesn’t reveal big secrets about “the company”, the royal family, but slips a few nudges at his brother but also to his stepmother Camillanow queen.
When Harry and Meghan performed at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral alongside William and Kate, it was before the media flurry of the Harry & Meghan memoir and Netflix documentary.
excuses
The couple accused the royal family of being indifferent to their affliction and blasted them in the tabloids for overshadowing William and Kate. Harry and Meghan took a victim position and denounced a certain form of racism within the royal family.
In an interview with the Telegraph, the prince even said he was waiting for an apology from the royal family for his behavior.
“You know what you did and now I know why you did it. And you were caught in the act, so admit it.” He didn’t seem to get what he expected.
