Costa Rica Streamlines Disabled Procedures

The executive director of the National Council for People with Disabilities, Bilbia González, explained that given the delays in submitting applications, a number of measures will soon be taken to reverse this phenomenon.

In a press conference after the Governing Council, the official also stressed that there were 4,222 disability card renewals that also needed attention.

With a validity of three years, the document could later be automatically renewed, González explained after declaring that the process would be digitized.

In parallel and as a matter of urgency, the procedures, tools and protocols of the Disability Certification Service would be updated to avoid future delays in issuing certificates, he assured.

At the meeting with the press in the Presidential Palace, it was also announced that the National Insurance Institute (INS) Trauma Hospital was equipped with new equipment: a special orthopedic table, an ultrasound machine, an endoscopy tower, three anesthesia machines and a bone pulverizer.

“These devices will be of great help to patients and their speedy recovery. They are innovative devices and even unique in Central America, guaranteeing the quality and warmth that characterizes the Health Services Network,” said INS Executive President Mónica Araya.

On that day, for the second time in just one month, workers from the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) took to the streets to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with irregularities in the funding of this facility, which has been providing public health and preventive services to the residents of this country since the 1940s .
