King Harald V of Norway could succeed Denmark’s Queen Margrethe and strip his daughter of the royal title, Norwegian media speculate.
Queen Margrethe II’s explosive announcement that Danish royals Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10, will become counts and countesses and as their Excellencies rather than His or Her Royal Highness will be known from January 1 has caused great controversy in the Scandinavian country.
And now it looks like Norway’s monarch, 85, may follow suit, permanently stripping her daughter Princess Märtha Louise, 51, of her title, who announced her engagement to US shaman Durek Verrett in June.
According to Norwegian publication Se og Hør, crisis meetings have been ongoing over the matter between the king and his two children, whom he shares with Queen Sonja of Norway, Crown Prince Haakon, 49, – the heir to the throne – and Princess Märtha Louise.

Martha Louise, a mother of three, is believed to have considered removing the title of princess herself. In 2002, she gave up the title of Her Royal Highness

Web has reached out to the Norwegian royal household for comment. Princess Märtha Louise’s manager, Carina Scheele, declined to comment on the story.
As early as 2019, the Norwegian royal family announced that Märtha Louise, in consultation with her family, had decided to no longer use the title princess in commercial contexts.
The palace said the royal could still use the title when representing the royal family and in a private context. Märtha Louise refrained from using the title “Her Royal Highness” in 2002.
However, King Harald is believed to be considering permanently stripping Märtha Louise of her princess title – with the Norwegian Queen herself also considering relinquishing the title herself.
Martha Louise traveled to Canada last week and meetings are believed to have taken place with her father to discuss her title.
The 50-year-old mother of three, who is the daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, announced her engagement to the 47-year-old California bisexual shaman in June.
With a huge celebrity following, a belief that he can speak to the spirit world, and a very colorful history, Shaman Durek is hardly a typical royal groom.
But maybe he’s perfect for Princess Martha-Louis of Norway, who, as a self-proclaimed psychic who says she can talk to angels, is anything but a classic royal bride.
In March, the princess shared the first snap of her three children with partner Shaman Durek (pictured together).

Meanwhile in Denmark, Prince Joachim has spoken out about Queen Margrethe’s recent decision to strip his four children of their royal titles and it has been revealed that his daughter is being bullied at school.
The prince said relations within the family are currently “complicated” as Prince Nikolai, 23, Prince Felix, 20, Prince Henrik, 13, and Princess Athena, 10, become Counts and Countesses and will be known as Their Excellencies , in place of His or Her Royal Highness from January 1st.
While Princess Marie said Athena is being bullied at school after the decision was made public earlier this week.

“They come and say (to Athena): Aren’t you a princess anymore?” Princess Marie told the Danish news agency BT.
She said her children have been put in the public spotlight and feel the need to defend them, especially now that her youngest is being teased.
“The children were put on public display. Very short-term. That means we as parents didn’t have time to prepare them for the change and people’s reactions,” she added.
Joachim has lashed out at the move, saying he was “punishing” his children and claiming he only learned the news five days before it was made public – although the royal household insisted the decision was “a long time coming”. ‘.
