In Burkina Faso, Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba’s resignation speech was broadcast to RFI and then broadcast on Facebook. Taken on Sunday October 2nd, the former Transition President looks back on the weekend’s events.

Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba is particularly upset that theAttack on the Gaskindé convoyim Soum, Monday 26 September, served “as a ferment to increase misunderstandings, tensions, criticism within the population and the armed forces, rather than being a moment of sadness”.

The former interim president gives his version of the events that led to his resignation: “Before, our dead could not be buried […] some units of our armed forces, with civil and political sympathizers, driven by individualistic, subjective motives and prevailing some frustrations and claims that should be able to find solutions in other consultation frameworks massively converged towards sensitive areas. The declared goal was clear: to interrupt the transition. Their actions caused two dead, nine injured and property damage. In view of the danger of a split in our army and in view of Burkina Faso’s greater interest, I have renounced my position as Head of State, President of the Transition, effective today, October 2nd. »

Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba also sent a message to the new authorities on the ground: “I wish the new authorities of Faso every success. I invite them to work, above all to unite rather than disperse, and to assume their responsibilities as a priesthood. »
