A couple from Saxony-Anhalt fell and died while walking near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The owner of her holiday apartment in Grainau reported that tourists were missing on Saturday, as police announced on Sunday. Emergency services found the lifeless bodies of the 55-year-old woman and her 60-year-old husband below the section between Höllentalangerhütte and Hupfleitenjoch.

The couple had probably already left for the walk from Grainau towards Osterfelderkopf on 13 April. According to the information, the two fell on a snowy stretch of the road and were fatally injured.
According to police, the tourists wore sneakers and were not equipped for such a tour. “This is very alpine terrain, which also descends steeply,” said a police spokesman. “For tours like this, you need smart walking shoes.” (dpa/swi)
