Married couples should have the right to separate bedrooms and even “separate houses” without being judged if they wish, said actress Cameron Diaz, who believes this type of relationship should be “normalized.”

Cameron Diaz made the statement Tuesday on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast, hosted by Molly Sims and Emese Gormley.

The 51-year-old actress, who has been married to Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden since 2015, explained that she has her room and he has his room.

“And we have the space in the middle to accommodate our relationships,” she added.

Her unconventional stance was supported by the podcast hosts, who warned that the statement could put her in a bad light.

“I’ve already said it,” Cameron Diaz responded, saying not to be afraid of his opinion. “My husband is so wonderful, I said that before I got married.”

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden welcomed their daughter Raddix in January 2020.

Although the actress has kept a low profile in recent years since retiring from acting, she has publicly praised her husband on several occasions.

“[Le mariage] “was the most important thing I did in my 40s, and it opened me up in different ways,” she told Harper's Bazaar in May 2016.

“It's really great. I didn't think I would do this and I don't know if I would have done it if I hadn't met my husband.
