A low-pressure system from New Mexico was expected to bring 6 to 8 inches of snow to Quebec overnight Friday before returning to the United States.

From Outaouais to Estrie across the greater Montreal area, snow should start overnight and end Saturday night. The system will reform further east of the United States, said Jean-Philippe Bégin, meteorologist for Environment Canada.
“Near the St. Lawrence Valley, the precipitation is accompanied by winds with gusts of up to 40 km/h or even 50 km/h,” adds the meteorologist.
“It could lead to snowstorms,” he said.
Road conditions could deteriorate rapidly, Environment Canada said in a snowfall warning issued on Friday. Caution is therefore required on the roads.
“If visibility is limited while driving, slow down, watch for the taillights of vehicles ahead and be prepared to stop,” the agency advised.
