The elected municipal officials voted unanimously to hold a referendum to be held in May. From spring onwards, citizens will be able to vote on this project to build a multifunctional complex.

With leaders at Gila River Arena, home of the Coyotes from 2003 to 2021, refusing to renew their lease with the least popular team at Bettman Circuit, the latter had to show humility by playing at Mullett Arena from the start of the season.

The tiny, 5,000-seat amphitheater that also serves Arizona State University’s Sun Devils has been the target of much ridicule since the campaign began.

The President of the Coyotes, Xavier Gutierrez, was also a member of the Tempe City Council. He called for the referendum to be held to demonstrate his transparency and commitment to taking into account all the voices on the fringes of this project.
