Critical Condition: A police officer from the royal escort beats an octogenarian

A police officer on a motorbike who was part of the royal motorcade escorting the Duchess of Edinburgh is said to have severely assaulted an octogenarian on Wednesday.

The crash is believed to have happened in west London in the afternoon, the BBC reported on Thursday.

The seriously injured 80-year-old was transported to a hospital after being treated locally by the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, English media continued.

For her part, a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said the Duchess of Edinburgh Sophie was “grateful for the quick response from the emergency services” and that her “sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the injured lady and her family”.

The Metropolitan Police of London have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
