Critical issues sometimes occur on Windows 10 and KB5026361 – GinjFo

Patch Tuesday May 2023 brought to life Windows 10 Update KB5026361. It fixes several security vulnerabilities and bugs. Unfortunately, there are problems with PCs. Some even speak of serious problems.

Since May 9, the day KB5026361 was released, the problems have been piling up. They appear after or during the installation of this update. On Reddit, the Feedback Hub, and some forums, users are reporting various issues, some of which lead to a PC crash. Obviously the user is a victim of a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).

We also have a critical error with the message “PROCESS1 INITIALIZATION FAILED”. One affected user states that they solved the issue by manually booting AMD’s RAID drivers from a command prompt and then using a Windows 10 installation image from a USB stick to initiate a boot repair.

Others report problems installing with error code 0x800f0922. In some cases, the machine is forced to restart, although the setting prohibits it. This problem is annoying as work and data may be lost and downloads may be interrupted.

The interventions also mention errors “0x800F0984 0x800F0984 Matching binary: vmswitch.sys is missing for component: amd64_microsoft-hyper-vd..” in event logs and errors in Microsoft Edge updates.

Microsoft is silent for now and none of these concerns have been officially acknowledged.
